Coral Reef Sailing at Seabase

To all Troop 572 members who replied to the Seabase 2008 interest survey. 

There are 16 Scouts and 6 adult Scouters that comprise the initial 24 participants (3 crews/boats of 8 participants each).  There are 1 Scout and 2 Scouters on the wait list.

The 16 Scouts and 6 Scouters are required to print out, read, and sign the attached financial agreement with Troop 572 and provide a $100 per participant deposit as soon as possible to secure a slot on Seabase 2008.  BOTH THE $100 DEPOSIT AND SIGNED FINANCIAL AGREEMENT ARE REQUIRED.

Participants must understand the financial commitment and risk they are undertaking to participate in Seabase 2008.  Troop 572 will not incur any financial burden in case a Seabase 2008 participant with a signed financial agreement, has made all required payments and drops out.  The deadline for turning in both the signed financial agreement and $100 deposit is Monday, March 19, 2007 .  Failure to meet this deadline may result in being dropped from Seabase 2008 and replaced by someone from the Wait List.

Youth - Initial Qualifications:

  • Participants must be Fourteen (14) years old by September 1, 2008
  • Pass the BSA Swim Test
  • Must be First Class or above
  • Have successful completed the BSA Swimming Merit Badge
  • Have successful completed the BSA Life Saving Merit Badge

Scouts who are not yet 1st Class rank have until December 31, 2007 in which to complete their Scoutmaster Conference.  

Scouts who have not yet earned the Lifesaving merit badge also have until December 31, 2007 to complete the Lifesaving MB.  The primary opportunity to earn the Lifesaving MB will be at summer camp July 22-28, 2007.  If a Scout is unable to attend summer camp, it will be the responsibility of the Scout to earn the Lifesaving MB via other BSA approved programs.
