Notes from Scoutmaster Zedan:
I would like to
remind Scouts first of travel logistics, checked vs. carry on luggage, uniform expectations, and a final
reminder to double check their backpack contents against the Philmont equipment list for all personal and crew gear.
Most will not have their boots in their backpacks and we need to remind them to
put them in the pack or double verify that they are in their carry on luggage
or on their feet.

Crew 703A1 - We will assemble
as a group at United Airlines group check-in at Dulles at
Philmont equipment: Each participant should review
their pack contents with the list published in the 2007 Guide to Adventure. The
checklist can also be found on the Troop website at the Philmont
Base Camp Documents section.

Crew Leaders need to
All participants need to keep their backpacks packed with only the gear they
will be carrying on their back while on their trek. All other gear should be in
their carry on luggage which should be a small duffel or backpack. There is no
room at Philmont to store suitcases while we are on
the trail. Their carry on should adhere to TSA content requirements and FAA
airline size restrictions for carry on luggage. Please note, while in transit
participants may not have, or at best, will have limited access to their
backpacks. Everything they need in transit should be in their carry on luggage.
(Medications, sleeping cloths, clean under cloths, personal hygiene, camera,
cash, electronics, book, etc.,). Yes, iPods and other electronics are allowed on High Adventure
during travel.
All participants will only be wear ing
official BSA Class A uniforms
while traveling. This is not
an option. While running
around sight seeing and check in at Philmont they may
wear a class B shirt with their official BSA shorts, socks and belts.

Again, many thanks to Cathy
Reed for all her hard work getting the crews ready for Philmont. There are many hours involved in the admin side
of high adventure trip participation and we have all been “reminded” of items
not turned in. We all appreciate her
attention to detail and that means less problems when
your journey begins.
