Our Pre Jamboree outing was an excellent learning event. We all got to know each other a little better, we picked up some ideas on how to improve our set up time, determined additional gear we will need and had lots of fun. Photos are posted in the troop photo alblum.

We are less than one month away from Jamboree. Please make sure you make any uniform adjustments that were pointed out during our inspection on Saturday.

All participants are required to have a Photo ID. It has been recommended that it be an ID issued by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles or Military Dependent ID.

Please review the following information in preparation for the jamboree.

Uniform Needs at the
2005 National Jamboree

While at Jamboree a scout will always be in either his full class A uniform or the Scoutmaster approved Troop Class B uniform. There is no option for any other attire. The pants or shorts must be "official" BSA uniform. Non Official BSA clothing will not be allowed.

The class A uniform is described in the Jamboree Leaders Guide. Each scout needs a minimum of two (2) Class A uniforms. You may want to consider sending them with additional BSA shorts and socks.

One (1) neckerchief is provided with paid registration. Other than two sets of patches (Council Shoulder strip, Troop Numerals and Jamboree Patch), no other uniform articles are provided.

BSA does not provide a Jamboree Hat. That is an item the scouts will need to purchase. Each member of Troop 522 should purchase item #JW28276 Jamboree Participants Cap from the Jamboree Catalog.

BOYS’ LIFE PATROL FLAG CONTEST

The Flaming Purple Monkey Patrol from NCAC won the 1997 National Boys’ Life Patrol Flag contest.  This is a rewarding and fun activity to build patrol spirit.  Take a good look at a successful patrol and what do you see? Its patrol flag-always honored, jealously guarded, properly cared for.  It goes wherever the fellows go, on every hike, every camping trip.  It flies from the top of the cliff they scale, from the bow of the lead canoe.  It's their emblem, their calling card.  Click her to download Adobe PDF from the Jamboree Troop Leader Guide for more information and contest guidelines.

2005 National Jamboree
July
24 - August 3, 2005

Fort A.P. Hill

Approximately 40,000 staff, leaders, and Scouts from all 50 states, territories, and foreign countries will have the opportunity to live, work, and play together in an atmosphere of Scouting fellowship at the 2005 National Scout Jamboree, July 24-August 3. Council contingents will arrive on Sunday, July 24, 2005, and will depart on Wednesday, August 3.

PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS

ALL Scouts and Scouters are required to have a complete physical within six (6) months prior to the Jamboree.  A new form will be provided to Scoutmasters.

DO NOT UTILIZE PREVIOUS JAMBOREE OR HIGH ADVENTURE FORMS

GATEWAYS

Gateways are one of the most visible and colorful methods to show the diversity of our nation! A gateway lets your Scouts show Scouts from other parts of the country what is unique or interesting about your troops home area. Troops usually design their gateways to reflect the most notable aspects of their home area--history, geography, industry, etc. This is often done in very creative and novel ways.

Youth Protection Training
Online at NCAC

1.  The National BSA website for online YPT is organized not by council but by the state and city in which the council headquarters is located so consequently, you will find a link to the NCAC YPT training on the National website ONLY under Maryland , Bethesda .  I asked at National BSA HQ if a link could also be put under Virginia and DC since our council covers two states and the district but the answer was 'No' since the program that does the linking is designed to work on council headquarters city only.  (Dumb!)

2.  If you take the YPT training on any other council website, your training will not be reported to NCAC or recorded in NCAC unless you provide a copy of your training certificate to your district training chairman and your district training chairman turns that in on a training report.

3.  Recommend that all NCAC leaders wishing to take Cub Scout/Scout YPT training online do so on the NCAC website and not do it through linking from the the National website.
