The Lower Loudoun Boys Football League wanted to improve the area immediately surrounding the fields US flag pole and utility shed to create a patriotic garden. Boy Scout Troop 572 Eagle Scout candidate David Zedan accepted the project as his Eagle Scout project and coordinated the effort, which included securing the funds, volunteer labor, materials and plants. He scheduled the project for Saturday May 28th, 2005 over the Memorial Day weekend to keep with the patriotic theme. The project was divided into three phases: Design, build and place one planter box
Many scouts and adult volunteers came to Bill Allen Field and spent a half day completing the landscaping portion of the project. This included creating a foundation for the garden, some trenching, setting 6”x6”x12’ sections of wood, bringing in topsoil and creating a level environment for the garden bed. Next they planted various red, white and blue flowering plants throughout the flower bed which we was finished off with a layer of hardwood mulch. They then placed the planter box David built directly in front of the utility shed. Various flowering plants were then planted in the box. They finished the project by grooming the section in front of the planter box and spread grass seed. Photos |
